Freelance Senior Sustainability Consultant - Climate Targets (ZZP)

The Climate Plan is a strategic initiative by ABN AMRO aimed at fulfilling our Net-Zero commitment. As a Senior Analyst in the Target Team, you will play a crucial role in actualizing the ABN AMRO vision and facilitating sustainable change. You will adeptly balance the organization’s strategic objectives with your expertise, working cross-departmentally to drive meaningful transformations.

You will be responsible for target (re)development and the prioritization/selection of new sectors/portfolios for Net-Zero target setting, adhering to the framework grounded in the minimum requirements set by the Net-Zero Banking Alliance (NZBA). This role demands strong analytical and consultancy abilities, a results-oriented mindset, and excellent stakeholder management skills.

Within the Target Team, you will report to the Target Team Lead and will have a functional reporting line to the SAGA Integrator assigned to the specific sector within the scope of change. You will be part of the Sustainability Center of Excellence, specifically within the Climate Plan team. Close collaboration with other workstreams will ensure comprehensive coverage of responsibilities, including Business Implementation, Transformation, and ESG Data.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the development and refinement of climate targets.

• Take ownership of the selection process for new sectors/portfolios.

• Analyze data and provide actionable insights to support strategic decisions.

• Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders across various departments.

• Ensure processes are aligned with the bank’s climate goals and customer interests.

• Mentor junior analysts and provide guidance as needed.

Your business objectives are directed towards achieving target setting for a variety of sectors in scope of the Climate Plan. A general overview of the objectives that are currently ongoing and need finalisation towards YE2024 is provided below:

1. Passenger Cars target setting

2. Wave III annual statement and/or target setting

3. CSRD Absolute value calculations

4. BRAS 2025 limit and checkpoint statement

5. RAS per sector review

6. Deepsea Shipping – IMO Revised Strategy alignment

7. Wealth Management – target review

8. Oil & Gas upstrem & Midstream target setting

9. Mortgages & CRE - CRREM2 updated alignment

Job requirements

• 4-7 years of work experience.

• Background in sustainability.

• Strong analytical and consultancy skills.

• Proven track record of results-oriented execution.

• Excellent organizational sensitivity and relationship-building abilities.

• Knowledge of corporate sustainability reporting regulations and frameworks (EU Taxonomy, CSRD) and familiarity with scope 1, 2 & 3 carbon accounting.
