Industrial Automation engineer for Siemens CranesJoin our innovative team as a Solution engineer and be involved in every aspect of the development of automatic cranes. This ranges from ideas within projects, designing, programming and testing the software in the office and at client locations worldwide.
In this role you will be one of the automation specialists from the department. It is encouraged from you to take ownership on the awareness within the cranes team on the standard methodologies within the engineering process.
A typical day for you starts with a standup meeting where the discipline lead explains the tasks for the week, checks with all the team members their progress, what they will be doing this week and if they encountered issues. After this meeting you will discuss with a colleague how to tackle a programming issue you have in your PLC program. Till lunch, you work on the PLC part for one of the movements from the crane. After the lunch you will test the PLC program from your colleague against a simulator and you will check if all the required functionality is properly working by testing the program following a test protocol. You report all your findings and discuss the finding with your colleague to make sure your findings are clearly reported in the Jira application. At the end of the day you walk back to the train station which is a 3-minute walk from the office.
We are working on sophisticated projects taking care of the integration of a diversity of systems like: Automation and subsystem software, S7 PLC’s, HMI systems, PC networks, virtualization, cyber security topics. A typical project last for 1 to 2 years and is realized with development / design in Holland & Germany followed by pre-commissioning in China and is finalized at the end customer location.
Responsibilities include:
• Design and prepare integrated software solutions to connect with various subsystems according to the requirements;
• Perform integral function tests and acceptance test together with the client;
• Actively participate in the development of automation solutions for harbor cranes;
• Defining of the best suitable products, components and systems to be used and their characteristics;
• Tracking, documenting, evaluating the development and building progress.

Requirements:
• Minimum a Bachelors degree or equivalent experience in (Technical) Computer Science, Electrical engineering, Software Engineering or equivalent;
• Experience in/Knowledge of industrial automation;
• Troubleshooting skills in root cause analysis;
• Proven experience with TIA Portal;
• Ability to write clear and concise documentation (such as requirements, design and testing procedures);
• Business proficient in English.
• Willing to travel for reasonable periods (think of 2 periods of 4 weeks on a year base)
You have a plus if you also have:
• Experience with networking of industrial automation;
• Knowledge from container terminals or container cranes;
